31 Horses have been moved from their various locations throughout the county, and are currently on the Tennis Court at the Hilton. They are there at the present time waiting for Auction Day. The Auction will be held at the Live Oak Event on March 23rd.
I am a little sad that I will not be able to see the horses where they have been temporary located. So many of us have enjoyed seeing them in places like the Foxfire Office on Hwy 40 (“Freedom Is Not Free” by Linda Happel Zysko), Star Banner (“Luce Dipinto” by Kent Weakley), On Top of the World (“Inspiration” by Mary Verrandeaux), Peterson & Smith Equine Hospital (“Sunny” by Carlynne Hershberger), Marion Cultural Alliance (“Celebration” by John Breen), Ocala Breeders’ Sales (“Mask~Herd~rade” by Lisa Russo), Lifestyle Solutions Medical Spa (“Wild Abandon” by Brynn Barnett) just to name a few.
The last time the horses were auctioned off, they raised 1.5 million dollars and the monies were donated to 28 different local charities. The bids started off at $3,500. The highest price a horse was sold for in the auction was $80,00 (“Old Glory”).
Horse Fever II~MCA dispatched three horses to local schools; students at Madison Street Academy, West Port High School and Hillcrest Public School for Exceptional Students then decorated the statues. Those horses will be unveiled during the Farewell to the Herd party and then sold at the auction.
